Bethlehem: More Than a Place in the Bible

Bethlehem: More Than a Place in the Bible

Bethlehem was never “just Bethlehem.”

It was always part of the story God was writing.

For us, Bethlehem is more than a place we read about in the Bible.

It is home.

Bethlehem Box was born from a deeply personal connection to this special place. Our co-owners, Elias and Elena, both have family ties to Bethlehem. Elias’s family has called Bethlehem home for generations, and Elena’s husband, Fady, is also from Bethlehem.

So when we talk about Bethlehem, we are not simply talking about a city thousands of miles away.

We are talking about family, heritage, faith, and a place woven into our lives.

A Story That Began Long Before Christmas

Bethlehem’s story began long before the Christmas night we know so well.

Bethlehem was the hometown of King David. It was also where Ruth and Boaz began their family, and where their son Obed was born—the grandfather of David.

Centuries before Jesus was born, the prophet Micah spoke of Bethlehem:

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah… out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel.”
— Micah 5:2

Generations later, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem.

And there, in this small town, Jesus was born.

The Savior of the world entered history in Bethlehem.

The People Behind Bethlehem Box

Our connection to Bethlehem is also connected to the people who continue to call it home.

Many of the handmade pieces we share through Bethlehem Box are created by artisans from Bethlehem and the surrounding area. Some are family members, while others are friends and people our families have known for years.

When we share their work with you, we are sharing more than a handmade product.

We are sharing a small piece of their craft, tradition, and connection to Bethlehem.

Every carved piece represents someone's time and skill, and we are proud to help bring their work from Bethlehem into homes around the world.

That is what makes Bethlehem Box so personal to us.

Why Bethlehem Means So Much to Us

It is not only a place from the Christmas story.

It is a place our families come from. A place our ancestors called home. A place where generations have lived, worked, prayed, created, and carried their faith forward.

And it is the place where the story of Christ’s birth unfolded.

Bethlehem was never “just Bethlehem.”

And for our family, it never will be.

With love from Bethlehem,

Elena & Elias
